International Internships and Long-Term Volunteers

 

We accept a limited number of interns and long-term volunteers each year, depending on our program needs and your background, interests, and goals. These placements are ideal for university students, graduate students, recent graduates, or professionals in fields such as:

Global and public health

Naturopathic medicine, acupuncture, chiropractic

Social work

Anthropology

International studies or peace studies

Latin American studies

Herbalism

Nutrition

Most placements require a minimum commitment of one month, and in most cases, a tuition-based program fee applies to help cover housing (with a homestay or in individual housing), meals (if desired), transportation, and staff time. Interns and volunteers may assist with a wide variety of tasks, such as:

  • Supporting Consult Days, Mobile Clinics, Or Workshops
  • Assisting With Community Events Or Logistics
  • Helping Develop Educational Materials For Patients
  • Supporting Documentation, Communications, Or Outreach
  • Administrative And Organizational Support 
  • Data collection, analysis, interpretation and reporting
  • Needs assessment
  • Program design, implementation and evaluation
  • Budgeting
  • Grant writing 
  • Logic model creation
  • Toolkits
  • Social media support
  • Children’s programming and implementation
  • Gardening and basic construction

We also support select students in designing community-based research or fieldwork projects relevant to their academic or professional training, and depending on their Spanish proficiency.
